The Dapples were developed in my rattery while I was working with a rare variety from the USA called snowflake. I was originally referring to them as my snowflake project as very early on I could see that they were not developing as snowflakes do and I wasn’t comfortable labeling them as something they were not. I had shared photos and info with some other highly respected breeders, and dug into almost 2 years of research, to understand best what was going on with the changes of their coats. The most similar behaviour in coat development was found in horses. After 6 generations born in my home, the name was officially changed to Dapple.
Temperament wise these are my best, and the best I have seen in over 30 years of owning pet rats. The males in this line are massive, typically weighing 2lbs! They have beautiful structure with nice thick heads/muzzles and bodies. Often they have blue grey eyes, that reflect back a stunning bright blue in low light.
Both sizes can be found in Dapples as a GBR dwarf was added a few generations before they came to Canada.
I am always interested in finding other breeders dedicated in helping to preserve and work alongside on this new variety.
