I have spoken with the rattery that my snowflake line comes from. To the best of my knowledge every snowflake line in North America comes from this rattery. Armour rattery had the first snowflakes pop up in late 2018 from 2 litters, an American blue doe, a russian blue doe and a blk self buck.
This snowflake gene may be different from the one in Europe, as I have learnt spotting (snowflakes) on the back of American snowflakes is very common. Most visual snowflakes will show well by 6 months and continue to improve as they age. Some look well splashed with snowflaking before 6 months, and some as late as 12 months.
The information I was given from Armour rattery is that it’s believed the snowflake gene may be connected to the torti gene ( midnight colors ). That’s a big bonus for me in adding this line eventually into dwarf sized. I have had dwarfs that displayed a snowflake like patterning on their torti backs. I will post them below…
I will be adding more info to this page and pictures of snowflakes and their development
